How to Reset Your WordPress Password

These days we all have so many passwords to remember. It's difficult to keep track of them all. If you have a WordPress website, chances are you ocassionally forget or misplace your log in information. Thankfully WordPress makes it quick and painless to reset your password. All you need is your username or the email address you use for that account. You can initiate a password reset for anyone with an account on your site and they can check their email to reset the password themselves.

Step 1: Go to the login page for your website

You can find this page by adding /wp-admin to the end of your domain name. For example, if your website is mycompanyname.com, your login page can be found at mycompanyname.com/wp-admin. The page should look something like this:

Step 2: Start the lost password process

As shown in the screenshot, there is a link just below the form on that page that reads Lost your password? Select that link.

You'll be prompted to enter your username or email address. Once that value is entered, choose Get New Password.

Step 3: Check your email for the password reset link

Within a few moments, you'll receive an email from WordPress. The content of the email will look something like the below and will confirm the site, the username, and contain a link. Choose the link in order to reset the password.


Step 4: Add and save a new password

You'll be redirect to a page that prompts you for a new password. Insert it and save it. This is your new password moving forward! Remember to save it in a safe place, like a password manager.
